A number of things have happened over the past year that have changed the shape of reddit- one of which was the closing down of r/reddit.com. The fallout has been pretty apparent. Content in r/wtf, r/funny and some of the other default set has suffered. Since /r/misc doesn't have a large subscriber base, people are more inclined to force their submissions into one of the default set.
By requesting r/reddit, I'm going to attempt the difficult: Build a community big enough that it will grab enough attention to pull away those more general posts that are getting into the default set. I hope the reddit community can help me with this by subscribing and posting their more general or reddit-related content in r/reddit.
From a moderator standpoint- I intend to add mods that are already managing very large subreddits. I will probably not appoint anyone who is modding less than 50,000 subscribers in one of their subs.
Ultimately, my goal in requesting this is to improve the content of the default set. Giving r/reddit.com a new home would definitely be a nice side benefit.
I thank you for your consideration.
