Having to try this absurdly hard tells me that cracks are developing in the propaganda. Yes, Cuba is a despicable totalitarian regime that has huge numbers of political prisoners, and yes, religious militants are dangerous. But the current sanctions only strengthens the regime, at the price of harming ordinary Cubans, and nothing in Santorum's statement makes any sense in terms of improving our security.

Their scams are falling apart all at once, so they might as well bundle them together.

He talks about doctrine, and about trying to conform places around the USA to a mold which they can control ("[...] make sure that our hemisphere and those that are close to us are folks that we can and should deal with"). He talks about "confronting" (i.e. take over) Cuba when the Castro's are dead, to help the cuban people essentially (I'm paraphrasing, but he doesn't hide it very well) "see the light and walk down the correct path to 'freedom'" (i.e. an USA-controlled government). He's pandering to anti-Castro Cubans in Florida. Barack Obama has begun to lift sanctions, which will continue to improve Cuban quality of life and move towards normalizing relations. This will hurt his electoral chances with the exile community in Miami, and Santorum is trying to swoop in and get that community voting for him, except without any understanding whatsoever about the community's issues, ideologies, or preferences. He just knows they want sanctions, so he said something about sanctions, and then he was like uh terror terror muslims augh because that's what Republicans do.
