There's a huge vote in Ohio today: Kasich's union-busting bill is on the ballot and polls have shown it may be in trouble.

Edit: More info here: http://ballotpedia.org/wiki/index.php/OhioSenate_Bill_5_Veto_Referendum,_Issue_2(2011)

I went this morning about 7ish.. I was the only voter there. I hope the turnout gets better as the day goes on. Although, there isn't a school levy in my area for dipshits to vote down, so I'm guessing not.

I went at 6:30 and there was a steady stream of people, and no school levy either.

At 7 AM it was about average turnout in Streetsboro.

Here in Virginia the turnout looked good when I drove past my polling site on my way to work.

I plan on stopping on my way home.

Edit: took out my partisan ramblings... wasn't really relevant. Suffice to say that being anything less than a right wing extremest in Virginia can be annoying.

I was there at 6:30 in the suburbs of Cincinnati, there were about 20 people going in and out while I was there. A ton of people voted early, and I would imagine this evening the turnout will be much better.

I love the downvotes from people for living in a district where there isn't anything up for vote.

Ohioan Here, got my "I heart/Ohio Voting" sticker already... wearing it proudly.

No on 2!

Snagged my 18 year old and my wife and went. That's 3 no's (But, at the same time I encouraged my son to read the issues)

"“I support it and I’m a union person,” said Moore, citing her belief that its passage would be better for the state overall.

Lou Salladay, 61, said he’d voted yes on Issue 2 “because I feel that the city should not have to fund other people’s retirement,” he said. “No one is funding mine. I can’t find a job to finish off my retirement.”"

FUCK PEOPLE!

God fucking retards.

I actually saw a vote, "YEs" sign for issue two in ohio. makes me want to kill people.

Voter apathy is present and accounted for in the comment section of this post.

Don't assume that non-voters are apathetic. Sometimes, there is no reason to bother.

Is that the entire ballot, or just the judicial part of it?

These smaller elections are much, much more important than federal elections. Our government is set up to mostly work from the ground up not the top down. This election will have infinitely more impact on your day to day life than any given federal election.

I'm voting in delaware county, PA. And I'm finding it hard to get information. i don't know any of the candidates since I recently moved here and the only information I can find is if they are republican or Democrat. Any independent candidates that I can vote for or any site where I can view their records?

[–]ajpos 2 points3 points ago

Thank you there is not much info there though just basic background on the judges. they do answer the following question "Because of some public concern about the amount of money being spent on statewide judicial elections, would you support an amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution changing the method of selecting statewide judges to a merit selection process? Why or why not?"

Seems like I don't have much to go by since I have no idea if they mean what they say or can accomplish it. I might as well vote down the party line which i hate doing because I feel misinformed and wish i could give my vote to a third candidate (party). I really like the site http://www.politifact.com but they don't seem to have a lot of info at the local level

The Supreme, Superior, and Commonwealth Courts' opinions and judgements are available online. Depending on your municipality, Common Pleas and Magisterial records may or may not be online. Granted, this only any use for incumbents and the retention elections, but Google is your friend.

The sheer number of unopposed incumbents in my district is pretty depressing. But then, I guess it's kind of my fault... if I really cared, I should have been out canvassing during the primaries.

The web site of your local paper should have something. Often it's just the official bios of each candidate, but it's better than nothing.

I'm here in Arizona and I have no clue what's going on with voting. I looked up the info on smartvoter and another azelections site and it seems to me the only thing that we're voting on is state senators. Anyone care to be more informative? I really want to be involved.

Sweet! Polls don't close until 8PM. I'll be able to vote after work.

Now if I could just get more information regarding the candidates.

GO VOTE!

... But only if you are informed on the issues and vote intelligently. If you're a moron and only want the little sticker, stay the fuck home.

I don't know who to vote for. Any help would be appreciated.

I think this is a conspiracy... They release a ton of new games a few days before, or on, election day to deter young voters from going out and voting.

[–]ztfreeman 0 points1 point ago

It sucked because I am registered to vote in the suburb of where I currently live in Georgia, and I was turned away because they aren't holding a local election or vote on anything until March 6.

I called the election office and inquired and their only consulation was to send me a newsletter with all the info. When I asked if they could just email me the information she said "Don't you just make everything difficult, I bet you're under 30. I'd have to "invent" that since the document doesn't exist." I almost went through explaining how to copy to PDF, but decided it wasn't worth the trouble....

Except no, it's not a political movement, and contrary to dreams of pundits it's not a liberal Tea Party. The whole point of the movement is to force change externally. Because people don't have a reason to protest when their guys/gals are in office. That's why you don't see large Tea Party rallies anymore. They've already cashed out, and quite frankly they've effectively demonstrated why coup de'tat of the political system is poor way to implement change. If you want to force change politically you need to win the whole thing: presidency, house of reps, senate, courts, supreme court appointees, etc. The population would reject it as an abuse of power.

EDIT: spelling, grammar

What votes are you looking at?

Are there big initiatives that will pass or fail off of the potential support of OWS?

I don't know of any. I'm just saying that if we wake up tomorrow and everything is exactly the same it's hard to draw any real conclusions about OWS.

There isn't an election where I live. So I'm gonna sit this one out.

My concern with your original post is that a lot people are going to try to find a way to make this election look like a referendum on OWS. I don't think that's really accurate.

I'm sure Fox News will run a story tomorrow about how some liberal cause failed somewhere and that means OWS has no teeth.

[–]ajpos 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I don't think OWS really got anyone to switch political views, it's just united a group of people.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They need to be united against or for something, simply being united is pointless.
Edit: Wow, I am simply suggesting the rally behind specific things, something they are missing the chance to do.
