Calderon is basically Steve Nash compared to what the Lakers trot out at PG.

[–]jive_turkey 3 points4 points ago

Same :(

Can the Lakers send the Odom trade exception and 1-3M worth of bad player contract to the Raptors? Because if they can, they should do this deal in a heartbeat.

A pass first PG who can get Bynum, Gasol, and Kobe the ball in the right places while not allowing the defense to double off him would make them really scary. Throw in the possible boost in Gasol's sensitive morale by having a fellow Spaniard and it's a no brainer.

The Lakers cap situation, thanks to that Odom exception, make this possible. Too bad they have no assets to make it happen. Toronto would want some decent players and the only way LA gets them is by giving up their only good ones (Gasol, Bynum, Kobe). Would only happen if the Raps were only interested in dumping the contract.

I don't think you can combine any players with the TPE.

[–]thisisme5 3 points4 points ago

I have to say, teams shouldn't take this lightly. The rare, good vision, pass first point guard is starting to disappear with the exception being Rondo.

[–]drdoooom 5 points6 points ago

I'd put Rubio in there as well.

[–]thisisme5 1 point2 points ago

I'm actually kind of embarrassed I didn't even think of him. Definitely throw him in there.

Kyle Lowry

As a Raptors fan, I think the Heat should consider sending us Wade and Lebron for Calderon.

No one will see it coming.

U muSt also be a leafs fan

[–]JupitersClock 4 points5 points ago

Sac Town could use a real PG.

[–]sdotgarcia 2 points3 points ago

yes we can

[–]deadskin 3 points4 points ago

I'm pretty sure my team is interested in his services.

Who wouldn't want a steady loyal veteran PG who doesn't back down from anybody (read: Garnett)?

[–]Phar87 4 points5 points ago

We'll give you Raymond Felton and a second round draft pick.

[–]deadskin 4 points5 points ago

We'll take Batum

[–]l2ul3en 4 points5 points ago

I'm honestly not sure why the Knicks or Lakers aren't trying to pick him up. I'm not saying he's fuckin Pistol Pete or anything, but he's definitely a huge upgrade than what either of those teams trot out there on a nightly basis.

Not sure what the Knicks have to move, unless they want to drop Chandler or Fields (both of which I would love)

[–]cowbellthunder 0 points1 point ago

I'm thinking Knicks should swamp Schumpert for Calderon. They're not getting Calderon for free, and Schumpert isn't going to be a passable point guard for at least 3 years, which is frankly the end of New York's title window anyway.

[–]aldeezy 0 points1 point ago

Shumpty Shump is a SG through and through, so unless Jerryd Bayless can show something worth a damn while playing the point, I don't like the move at all. That being said, it does add a young piece to the Raptors' core but how many times can you plug a young/inexperienced player into the lineup and expect instant results?

[–]l2ul3en 0 points1 point ago

I'd swap Shump for Calderon if I was the Knicks. But then again, it's not like some "true point guard", or whatever it is Knicks fans feel like they need, is going to solve the problems there.

I lol so hard when I hear people say BD is going to solve all the problems and make them contenders.

[–]cowbellthunder 0 points1 point ago

Exactly. Baron isn't exactly the most motivated guy to begin with, and I'm not sure he's capable of motivating Anthony and Stoudemire to actually give a crap on D.

[–]l2ul3en 0 points1 point ago

IMO, it's not even that. BD is a hell of a player. When he saw the kind of player Blake was last year, he really hightailed it and played his ass off before getting shipped off to Cleveland. Granted, he's taken games off, comes into camp out of shape, and tries when he wants, he can be a good player.

But the Knicks problem goes beyond just not having a PG. Is having a healthy and motivated BD going to help NY? Absolutely, but it doesn't make them a contender nor really move them up at all in the standings.

And lets not forget that the East is run by the Heat and Bulls. Most likely they'd have to go through both teams to get to the Finals. That's not something very likely to happen.

They should've never traded for Melo. What a dumb move. Dolan's probably lulzing right now.

[–]cowbellthunder 0 points1 point ago

The worst part of the Melo trade is they could have signed him outright, but Dolan was willing to give up 3 talented young players just so he could give Carmelo an extra 10 million (or whatever the number was). Embarrassing, and he's a huge reason they've historically sucked ass.

[–]rakimallah 3 points4 points ago

Absolutely. We'll give you anyone not named Kobe, Pau, or Andrew (Bynum, that is. You can have Goudelock if you want).

[–]Jalapeno_Popper 0 points1 point ago

The only problem I see is that Calderon is 30. Might be an issue for most teams.

[–]pnewman98 2 points3 points ago

That and his huge salary, which means that any team trading for him would have to include a veteran or somebody with a bloated contract. Sucks because he would be perfect for the Knicks, though they've got nothing really to give but couldn't make salaries work even if Toronto would take him for Toney Douglas or Iman Shumpert/Landry Fields.

[–]An_Upghost[S] 9 points10 points ago

Hey in his prime, he was frequently compared to Nash because they're both white and completely ignored that vast contrast in playing styles. He put of percentages of 40/50/90 once and almost broke the record for consecutive FT makes, so close the the player that holds it went to a game to try and jinx him. He doesn't use his athleticism to get by, he uses his high ball IQ. Just imagine have a truly competent, consistent PG again. Close your eyes and see Amar'e beasting in the paint again, not taking threes anymore, just slamming down lobs like it's nothing. Oh and he'll find Tyson Chandler for easy buckets too. Melo will play off-ball more to less his offensive burden and Calderon will feed in the post where he's most effective. Open your eyes and look back at me. I've given Calderon a ticket to NYC. And he can be yours for just one payment of $9.8M.

BUT WAIT! There's more! Trade now and the Raptors will throw in Anthony Carter, with free shipping!

[–]The_MadStork 3 points4 points ago

Forget Calderon, I want Carter back :( XD

[–]jly911 1 point2 points ago

Take him

[–]pnewman98 1 point2 points ago

Oh I'm not arguing with you and he would be perfect in NYC, I'm just saying there's no way to get him here with the way salaries have to match up for a trade.

[–]An_Upghost[S] 2 points3 points ago

[–]deadskin 0 points1 point ago

Jose, DeRozan, James Johnson, first-rounder for Melo

[–]jaxup 3 points4 points ago

Keep that poison outta here.

[–]aldeezy 0 points1 point ago

Give them Matt Devlin/Jack Armstrong and this could work.

[–]piglet24 1 point2 points ago

I really wish he could end up on the Lakers.

[–]soasdude 0 points1 point ago

Can Balyless not run the PG spot? He seems to produce whenever he gets minutes. He has all the potential but none of the minutes

[–]An_Upghost[S] 0 points1 point ago

He can. Him producing whenever he gets PT/starts goes all the way back to his days in Portland, in which I believe he won them a few playoff games. When he started with us (14 games, with a large gap in between), he put up 18 points and 7 assists on .578 TS%, 116.1 offensive rating on about 25% usage (Person that recorded these stats watched literally every single play last season to get the data). But we're just playing for too much this season and can't afford to take a chance on him and throw him into the fire. >.>

Also, he's looked pretty bad coming off the bench last season too. On some Jekyll and Hyde shit, I haven't seen anything like it; starting he's a fringe all-star, off the bench he's a scrub. He's looked much better this season to me though. Though I think that injuries played a large part in it as well.

TL; DR: Raptors need to free Bayless but are stupid.

[–]Navtron 0 points1 point ago

I believe the Lakers will be asking.

[–]ivesonman 1 point2 points ago

He would be a nice fit for the Lakers indeed.
