I'm going to be honest and upfront here. I am not currently a moderator of any subreddits, but I noticed your post on /r/hardware before you deleted it and I immediately thought I would be up to the task. Here's why:

  • I work with both PC hardware and video/audio hardware professionally, and I have a good working knowledge of common problems with all of these. Even if I can't solve a problem myself, I can usually find someone who can.

  • I'm a regular contributer to /r/gamingpc and /r/relationship advice - I spend quite a lot of time helping people out, quite simply because it's something I enjoy doing!

  • I can spot spam. I'm not sure how I could go about proving it to you, but I've been on reddit long enough to know the telltale signatures of spam posts and spamming users. I regularly go to the new sections of reddits and report spam, so this wouldn't really be something new for me.

  • I am always fair and helpful to people when I possibly can be. I'm currently training to be a counsellor in my spare time, so listening to and trying to solve people's problems in a calm and measured way is what I'm about.

It's fair enough if you don't want to consider me due to my lack of experience, but I thought I would throw my hat into the ring anyhow. Good luck in your search, as a regular visitor to /r/hardware I look forward to seeing the community continue to grow and improve.

cool. I moved the post here so more mods could see it.

While moderation experience would be ideal there is no reason why a new user can't be a moderator.

Based on what you say you definitely sound good for the job.

Well, thanks. Recently I have been wanting to be involved in a sub in a more 'official' way (especially since I have noticed some of my favourite subs growing so fast!). When your post popped up I knew I had to at least ask the question.

If you want any more detailed info about me to help you make a decision, just let me know. I realise I lack experience, but what I can offer is my time, knowledge and enthusiasm!

I'm going to piggy back on here because I feel exactly the same way as the OP. I have moderated my own personal sub (between a few friends and I) so I know the basics.

With hardware I've built a few machines ranging from powerful gaming rigs to space orientated HTPCs. I'm constantly overclocking my rig and troubleshooting my friend's rigs be their custom or prebuilt.

I love helping people wit hardware issues, and I've even spent class time to find solutions to exotic issues. I'm not the kind of person to simply give someone a google link.

I also have a few ideas to make /r/hadware better such as sidebar links to popular questions such as "can I overclock my computer", "How much can I overclock my computer", "What kind of ram do I need", "Can I upgrade my laptops' cpu/gpu/ram", etc.

I also have experience with CSS and HTML so I can help make /r/hardware badass looking!

I was excited about this for a moment because I thought you meant 'door hardware', of which I have extensive knowledge. Yeah, that right there pretty much disqualifies me.

[–]RosieLalala/r/police 1 point2 points ago

It's funny because at first I thought that it meant screws, nuts, bolts, that sort of hardware.

Join us at /r/DIY

[–]RosieLalala/r/police 1 point2 points ago

I used to frequent /r/DIY a lot, back when I first started redditing two years ago. And then someone came after me about "what does a girl know about a sawsal?" (or whatever tool it was, but I am partial to demolition myself) and I just sort of wandered away. If I'm not courting subs for controversy then I just don't want to get into it. And, while I'm sure that it's completely isolated and you're an amazing mod team, I just didn't want to get into it again, so I stopped going. Maybe I'll start up again. It's still in my subscriptions, after all.

Hey there, I'm interested in helping out.

I moderate and have created a number of subreddits which have grown to various sizes and levels of activity. Some of the ones that come to mind off the top of my head are /r/ragenovels , /r/intellectualatheism , /r/F1U1 and /r/Referendum.

[–]Zlor/r/patientgamers 0 points1 point ago

I'd be interested in helping out. I'm the creator/mod over at r/patientgamers

I'm also a server administrator with a very extensive background in IT engineering, as well as a huge video/audiophile outside of work. Technology (especially hardware) is pretty much my most consuming activity in life.

If you're still looking for help I'm happy to throw my hat into the ring.

[–]EndlessPitofPureHate 1 point2 points ago

I would absolutely love to be a moderator for /r/hardware.

I have absolutely no experience moderating a subreddit, but I figure this would be a great place to start.

I currently visit the subreddit on a daily basis and I contribute as much as possible.

My hardware experience comes out from my custom build and overclocking hobbies, which I spend a good deal of time on. I stay 100% updated on current hardware and I can offer expert-level advice on anything within the last 3-5 years, which is an eternity as far as computer hardware is concerned.

Additionally, I have a baseline understanding of audio and visual technology, which includes a knowledge of the market for both of those categories.

Overall, my top priority is helping people get the hardware they need for the price they want :D

[–]BIO_Wolf 0 points1 point ago

I could, but then I'm still inexperience in the actual use of technology (as University fees aren't cheap). Then there is the issue of still being new. It won't stop me from look at the hardware section. =D

Do not make him a moderator. He trolled a thread created by someone whose father had just passed away. Accused the OP of karma whoring.

[–]Momer 0 points1 point ago

I might be willing to help out here and there - I probably won't do much more than upvote / downvote relevant posts and comment every once in a while reminding users in non-relevant threads why their posts were downvoted.

Not much moderator experience, even though I've been here since early '06.

[–]Helrich -1 points0 points ago

I'll toss my name in the hat. I'm currently a moderator/regular poster over at /r/gamingpc and also check /hardware out regularly to help there too. I've gotten pretty good at raiding the spam filter as well :)

[–]TechnoL33T/r/ArtisanVideos -1 points0 points ago

I can do it. My internal internet content filter is like a spider-sense for bullshit and I'd say I meet all the qualifications.

I started /r/ArtisanVideos and /r/rvbdebates.

[–]littleredrex/r/Battlefield3 -1 points0 points ago*

Figured I would apply even though it seems you found some good guys already.

Currently mod on /r/battlefield3, /r/badcompany2, a minecraft subreddit. I also mod the /r/battlefield3 IRC, as well as mumble server. Spend most of my day responding to mod mail about posts caught in spam filter and helping users with other issues.

I have been moderating in some form for about 10 years starting in IRC and branching from there to other forums and communities.

[–]MIDItheKID 0 points1 point ago

I would love to apply for a position as a /r/hardware mod. Here's my résumé:

  • Over 10 years experience in computer hardware as a professional desktop solutions tech and as a hobbyist. Countless computer builds under my belt.

  • 4 year degree in studio production (knowledge of audio hardware as well as computer hardware, and interfaces that connect them both)

  • Ever since I discovered this subreddit a few months back, I have been actively helping users to the best of my knowledge

  • I also mod in /r/doodleordie and know how to spot spam (usually not too difficult)

  • I consider myself friendly and helpful in the fact that I (especially on Reddit) try not to call people stupid if they say something incorrect, but I will politely correct them with references. Also if somebody is more knowledgeable about a topic than I am, I will not make up answers to try and make myself look smarter, but I will listen to the advice/information they have to offer and add it to my growing brain-library of knowledge.

  • I believe in being a mostly laissez faire moderator. My role is not to delete posts and/or ban users, but to make sure that inappropriate content is not posted, spam doesn't make it through, and user posts don't get spam filtered.

[–]bboe/r/ucsantabarbara 1 point2 points ago

Perhaps you should look to your own users? Here are some statistics for the last 30 days of /r/hardware.

[–]bboe/r/ucsantabarbara 0 points1 point ago

Doh, I just realized your the same submitter of: http://www.reddit.com/r/modclub/comments/odusk/rcomics_seeks_new_mods/

Oh well, have the statistics anyway ;)

[–]superdude4agze -1 points0 points ago

I'll take the job. I currently moderate lgbtgonewild successfully.

[–]Knowltey/r/Cablemanagement -1 points0 points ago

I follow /r/hardware pretty often, build my own computers and am also active on /r/gamingpc and /r/buildapc, and have worked in various types of tech support for a good 6 to 7 years now.

I moderate /r/omaha, /r/Nebraska, /r/MLPTunes, /r/Transgamers, and a few private or quite small ones. I've fixed a few situations on those, never had to ban someone except one troll from a trolling subreddit who decided to make it his mission to spam my subreddits.

I also have a good amount of free time I can dedicate to monitoring the modqueue and other moderation related tasks. I also contribute to /r/modhelp often to assist new moderators learn how to moderate.

[–]RosieLalala/r/police 0 points1 point ago*

I do some work as a tech and it's primarily hardware based - does that count as knowledge if it's mostly hands-on rather than theoretical?

I am helpful to users and, as I already mod a couple of subs I know what spam is and I'm pretty alright at that sort of grey area as well. I also have no problem asking the rest of of the team if I'm in doubt!

I'm good about not banning people - I warn people that they're going down the wrong road first. I'm polite and friendly (I think, anyway) and I am helpful.

I mod /r/anarchism (medium to big) and its backroom /r/metanarchism (small to medium), /r/police (medium), /r/xxfitness (medium), /r/TorontoBiking (small), /r/agitation (small). Because of these I already spend a fair bit of time in the modqueue, and I'm promoting at least one of them about once weekly.

Also, there seems to be a fair bit of crossover with /r/DIY and /r/frugal and even r/@ - some promotion could be done there.

I'm just up for helping in general, if you want to keep me in mind. You seem to be growing a lot of teams lately.

[–]ReactionsSFWPORN -2 points-1 points ago

Didn't know about /r/hardware, but I'm now subscribed. I enjoy building PC's and especially overclocking. I enjoy answering tech questions and I'm quite active at other tech forums too (got over 600 posts on overclock.net, as an example). I know a lot about computer parts, and I also have experience moderating reddits before. I currently moderate the following reddits:

You've probably seen that I've applied to many of your other "searching moderator"-posts too, so you probably understand that I'm interested in moderating a few more reddits. I browse reddit every time I'm connected to the internet, which is basically all day! I live in Norway, timezone CET.

Thanks for considering.
