What are the best in-ear headphones I can get for $80-$100? (self.gadgets)
submitted 4 months ago by w4lnut
I was going to get some Bose IE2's but I've heard that they're not the best value. I'm looking for really good clarity all-around, but I really don't want to spend more than $100. Suggestions?

Listen to a bunch and see what you like?
The Klipsch Image S4 buds are <$100 and sound quite good.

Comfortable, stylish, great audio. Look for sales on these puppies. You can get $20-40 off of retail price on these by doing some waiting/research.

Damnit, I was so excited to be the one to recommend the s4's. I'm listening to my beautiful pair right now - I love these things so much.

Ok, I think I'm definitely going to get these. Everyone seems to recommend them, and cnet gave them a glowing review.....so yeah. I'm off to Best Buy tomorrow.

Hope it went well for you. :)

Definitely. I ordered a pair on Amazon about a week ago, and they got here a few days ago. This I have to say - straight out of the box, they sounded like garbage, and I mean garbage. Very tinny and harsh, with virtually no bass. So, I did what many reviews said to do, and let them burn in for about ten hours.
WOW. What a difference. Completely different earbuds after that. They sound great -- full, crisp mids, great balance, and bass that thumps with overpowering you. Maybe just a tad over-hyped - I can't say the clarity really blew me away, but these are the best earbuds I've ever owned, and they really sound fantastic.

Here is the information you should be looking at. The Etymotic MC5 I bought my kid for Christmas is getting rave reviews and it's ranked highly on that site.

Whoever says Beats is a fucking idiot. The Klipsch S4s are amazing and compete with headphones almost twice the price. I have been using them for a month and couldn't be happier. Check out the CNET reviews.

I've had 2 sets of VModa and loved them but they don't hold up...too delicate.

I haven't had that much experience with in ears but I have a pair of sennheiser cx400 ii which I love. Great sound quality and very comfortable.

I'm not an expert. But I got a pair of these and think they sound great.

Head-Fi.org is a great resource. The general consensus is that the Head-Direct RE0 are the best value out of all IEMs.
I have tried them out. They are really clear but for me personally they sounded "airy" and not direct.
For most people though , they are probably good enough. If purchasing through Amazon , make sure to read the reviews. I remember having to purchase through a different vendor (on Amazon) because the particular one listed supposedly had lower quality buds.

would recommend a set of Shure or Etymotic's ive had both and both were quality lasting products with great sound.

Bose is not worth the money. I've heard many a great thing from Beats Audio.

Stay away from Beats are you kidding me? Who told you this. Ill sum it up for you
Beats: Mediocre. Overpriced. you're far better off getting Sennheiser in-ears.
I wouldn't know from first hand experience but go to any audiophile forum/community and they'd say similar things to what I've just said
I'm pretty sure the comment is ironic.
I've heard just the opposite...
