As cool as it was to have Bucky as Captain America, I definitely think this was a right turn for his story. It fits a lot better with his character and what he went through after World War 2.

The art's fantastic, the writing was pretty strong, and I feel like the first arc bringing the whole Winter Soldier thing back to it's roots is a nice set up for the book. It has a lot of promise, and Brubaker definitely didn't disappoint.

I enjoy Winter Soldier #1 more than the first 6 books of Brubaker's Capitan America Run.

I like Bucky and this book does not disappoint.

I picked this up based on some of the hype here in /r/comicbooks. I can't say I really loved (or fully understood) the story. I've never followed Captain America so the whole backstory is pretty lost on me.

However, I really liked the art. Gorgeous noir art will get me every time.

I think it is the best Marvel book from Brubaker in quite some time. This is basically the book I've always wanted to exist, and now that it does I'm pretty ecstatic. It's everything I could've possibly wanted, both from Brubaker and Guice, and it is great to see a character like Bucky -- after all he has been through since he was brought back in 2004 -- finally getting to be an A-List character with an A-List title by an A-List team.

If this book doesn't make it in today's market, I will be rather sore.

I loved it.

It was very reminiscent of Brubakers initial 25 issue run of Captain America but more polished. It set up Bucky for a fight against a big Marvel villain perfectly without taking away from the tone of the book.

My only problem with it was Brubaker. He is writing a lot of noir/spy stuff and not really improving at it. He is not progressing and all his books read the same. That is not necessarly a bad thing, I loved this book, but he seems to be typecasting himself.

I wanted to give my little review here mainly because I am reading the Resurrection Man TPB, and it is interesting to see how Butch Guice's art has developed since the early 90s. I would never have guessed it was the same artist. In Resurrection Man, some of his art was a little haggard. I was struck by how much Resurrection Man's ex-wife looked like a man in the issue she was introduced. Now Butch has a handle on drawing women's faces (I suspect his technique is to take a picture and play with it in photoshop and then draw over it). The story was boring for the most part and the plot was basically the Manchurian Candidate, but the ending has me hooked for at least one more issue.
