I am personally a fan of Crescent Ballroom and Rhythm Room :]

Another vote for Rhythm Room, it's a 15-minute walk for me so I end up there fairly often. Crescent is also right off the light rail, although it can get a bit crowded.

Another vote for the RR. It's been years since I've been there... next time in town I definitely have to hit a show.

All the cool stuff seems to go down at Crescent lately.

I second both of those recommendations.

Crescent Ballroom is fantastic.

Depends.. what kind of music are you into?

Warren's Jazz Bistro

Smooth Groove is the band you want to see if you're into Soul music.

The Goathead Saloon in Mesa sometimes has great bands.

Yucca tap room is reliable for good music.

I saw a couple "secret shows" there. Gin Blossoms crashed open mic, The Format played an acoustic set, members of the Refreshments/Peacemakers would jump in at Rockaroake... Good times. When I first moved to AZ, being a HUGE Freshies fan, I would hang out at Yucca. It was amazing to see Steve Larson, Marc Norman, Scotty Johnson, Mark Zubia & Brian Blush just hanging out at the bar. After a couple weeks it was like "go away larson..." lol

Don't forget about The Atari's playing a free show in early March!

If you like Blues try Chars

If you're gonna be on the North side at all, Joe's Grotto owns bones.

Any place What Laura Says (google them) is playing at! There local Phonecians and are soooo good live. They usually frequent the crescent ballroom and one of (my personal faves) yucca tap room! No cover EVER at yucca tap and great beers!

I work at Fry's and would hear that song about 3 or 4 times every hour... I preferred the Mill's End song about how to "get yourself a pass... and away you will go."

I miss Chez Nous....best place ever...

[–]Steelejaxon 0 points1 point ago

Seriously. Did we really need another drugstore downtown? That place had more mojo than every nightclub in Scottsdale.

[–]dRwEedThuMb 0 points1 point ago

That place was a blast. Scottsdale is for the Ed Hardy folks..."cool" folks we shall call them...

I've been to The Clubhouse too many times to count. Probably my favorite. Shitty "green room", though.

On the west side of Phoenix is Libations.

[–]wyldeguns 1 point2 points ago

My old band played there alot! We were all East side and it was well worth the drive to play Donna Jeans!

[–]refusedzero 0 points1 point ago

All the places I see listed here are awful, lol. I'd try Long Wongs Firehouse, Yucca taproom, the Trunk Space, or the Lost Leaf for cheap (usually free) local music that isn't trendy as balls and sucks.

[–]wyldeguns 0 points1 point ago

The Yucca Tap Room in Tempe never has a cover! And not too long ago, got taps! And now takes cards! Oh, how times have changed.

This great website should help you figure out what to see in February. It lists a great amount of shows containing various genres of music.

The Compound in north Scottsdale usually has jam, funk rock at an affordable price. You should tell us where you will be cause if you haven't been to Phoenix before, its really spread out.
