The first time I got this deal, I thought I won some sort of lottery. FREE tickets to a show, AWESOME. Then at the end of the evening, I realized I spent ~$50 on food/drinks to watch a not-so-funny comedian, in an uncomfortable atmosphere. I felt duped.

No one twisted your arm to spend that much... I usually spend less than $15 and is a better time than a movie for the same price...

Nah, no one twisted my arm, its just Tuesday I thought i scored a FREE night of fun... and Friday night ended up being less than free. It was still fun and all... but it wasn't what i had envisioned in my brainz.

I can understand... I still think its something cool and different to do for the money. I usually have someone else drive if I feel like drinking. THEN have a few drinks before I even go, then nurse a couple of cheap beers for $10 and it's a good deal at that point. :)

Plus the service is terrible there and the food/drinks aren't that hot.

Food and drinks are fine to actually pretty good, just obviously overpriced to pay for the tickets... Service can be hit or miss, some very friendly and some not so friendly at all wait staff.

Yeah, it's pretty standard for comedy clubs to offer free tickets. Not really posting this because I think it's some crazy awesome deal but more trying to coordinate an impromptu meetup. You can purchase sprite if you want and your total bill will be like $6.

As to whether or not the comedian is any good, oftentimes the amount of alcohol has a substantial impact upon your sense of humor.

Hmmm, I think I'd like to take a new friend... I went a couple of weeks ago on the same deal and we had a pretty good time. I will try to let you know for sure how many tickets by 11 for sure.

Cool, we're both pretty new to Portland and don't know very many folks so trying to meet more people.

I know how that feels and it would be cool to do a small meetup this way... I will ask others at a B-Day party tonight too. :)

Been there many a time. Most of my visits have been great fun (first date with my girlfriend was there) and you don't have to massively overspend. Occasionally the comics aren't great, but that's to be expected ith a venue that has to book 52 acts a year plus openers. I've seen some truly funny people there as well (Doug Stanhope, Dwight Slade, Alonzo Boden, even Patton Oswalt on a bit of luck a few years ago)

Sadly, my gf may have to be home with her kid, so I'll have to show up solo. But I'll be there, sending you a PM for details.

Saw Doug stanhope too. He killed. Anyone been to the other comedy club? More of the same?

All I know is that Helium is more of the "Star" comedians and you will spend $20+ according just to get in. I was thinking about going to see Doug Benson there tomorrow night but this is much too budget friendly to pass up! :)

Harvey's is where comedy goes to die.
