To be fair to the "idiots", that list isn't always updated swiftly, and sometimes items not on that list do activate on Steam, or items that are on that list don't activate on Steam.

Because even when it is one of those titles, only keys in the specified format activate, and people who haven't bought it yet have no way of knowing the format the keys are in for a given site/sale.

Requesting confirmation on a case by case basis isn't unreasonable, and it's not like it's an undue burden on the community. If you find it burdensome, just ignore the question.
