Lovely gem from Ravi Shastri: "Thats the key to this format of the game, the ability to score runs quickly."

[–]manpreetsm 14 points15 points ago

His powers of deduction are breathtaking.

[–]twinpeek 6 points7 points ago

Mark Taylor's comment about Kohli's "Lovely Asian wrists" has been the highlight of channel nine's commentary. And the summer.

[–]ilovekitty 3 points4 points ago

Sastri: "It's wide enough for the umpire to not call it a wide"

[–]scotthendo 11 points12 points ago

We've already seen better fielding in this match from the Indians than in 4 test matches this summer.

[–]dzudz 4 points5 points ago

I know, that guy was running after the ball!

[–]himynameisdave 5 points6 points ago

i hate ch9

[–]ch9 13 points14 points ago

I hate you too

[–]himynameisdave 5 points6 points ago

I'm sure we can make a compromise, you stop showing ads during gameplay and ill consider un-muting the commentary.

[–]ch9 4 points5 points ago

No Deal. How about I show more ads more often so I can make more $$$.

[–]Ayjayz 5 points6 points ago

And stop talking to the bowlers as they're walking back. Thats just ridiculous!

[–]mjk0104 2 points3 points ago

I can only imagine how off-putting that would be. It's interesting, but seems a bit intrusive...

[–]shazam298 5 points6 points ago

commentators should say vodafone more

[–]Prathik 1 point2 points ago

and KFC!

[–]fiftydowrar 4 points5 points ago

I should just mention that vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone vodaphone. Vodaphone? Vodaphone.

[–]shazam298 2 points3 points ago

Spider cam Vodafone!

[–]k4f123 6 points7 points ago

Man I have to say, after the extremely entertaining test matches we've been witnessing (India vs Aus and Eng vs Pak) watching T20 feels plain silly. I don't even feel like I'm watching cricket. Can't seem to bring myself to care about this match.

[–]GrandHarbler 4 points5 points ago

Yeah I'm with you mate. I'm watching it with my dad because it's on the evening and he works during the day so we didn't get to watch any of the tests together, but it just doesn't compare. We've been referring to it as "bash" rather than T20.

[–]manpreetsm 2 points3 points ago

after the extremely entertaining test matches we've been witnessing (India vs Aus)

Typo?

[–]shniken 6 points7 points ago

Entertaining for an Australian or Pakistani I suspect...

[–]k4f123 3 points4 points ago

Haha I thought someone would say that. Even though the Ind vs Aus series was unfortunately one sided, it was still entertaining to watch.

[–]HawkieEyes 6 points7 points ago

What kinda shot was that 6 from Warner

[–]Prathik 5 points6 points ago

The 'whatthefuckwasthatawesomeshit' shot.

[–]GrandHarbler 2 points3 points ago

"switch-hit 6" is what Dad and I have been calling it

[–]The_Surgeon 2 points3 points ago

It is the "switch hit". A very well executed one at that.

[–]adencrocker 2 points3 points ago

the ambidextrous shot, a shot da vinci would have made

[–]smurf42[S] 5 points6 points ago

Sehwag out in first six balls he faces, calling it now.

[–]manpreetsm 5 points6 points ago

In some cultures, you'd probably be beheaded.

[–]HawkieEyes 3 points4 points ago

lol

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

I see what you did there... No really though I'm calling it

[–]sloppyrock 4 points5 points ago

Is that you Brett?

[–]sloppyrock 4 points5 points ago

Done.

[–]GrandHarbler 5 points6 points ago

Nice!!

[–]Prathik 4 points5 points ago

FUUUUUUUUU

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

Haha sorry guys, couldnt help but see it coming

[–]smurf42[S] 4 points5 points ago

Pretty good innings by Wade i must say

[–]smurf42[S] 4 points5 points ago

Gusset Jr. too actually

[–]twinathon 5 points6 points ago

In other news, Dhoni has discovered a way to beat hot spot!

[–]dzudz 1 point2 points ago

It's because he's too cool. rimshot

[–]smurf42[S] 9 points10 points ago

I know an ODI series is never really exciting but anyone else excited about the upcoming ODI tri-series?

World #1 ODI team (Aus) vs. World Cup Finalists (Sri Lanka) vs. World Cup Winners (India). On paper it looks like a fun series to watch, hopefully it turns out that way

[–]twinathon 1 point2 points ago

Yea pumped for the ODI's, a format I think is being forgotten about just a tad. It's a shame, as they'red a blast to go and see live.

[–]smurf42[S] 4 points5 points ago

I cant even imagine how to pull off a switch hit, for six nonetheless

I've had twitter for 2 years, but I mainly follow people I know from youtube

[–]manpreetsm 1 point2 points ago

Name and shame.

[–]Majid_Ahmed_Khan 1 point2 points ago

Hello!

@cricketicc and @ESPNcricinfo

[–]sloppyrock 1 point2 points ago

Cricket and satire, two of my favourite things! Great comment.

[–]devils-pedicure 2 points3 points ago

Good performance by Matthew Wade.. Brad Haddin would be shaking in his boots.

And just as I write this the Australian team is called back onto the field with fireworks and techno music.. Are you fucking kidding me?

[–]Chipwich 6 points7 points ago

Kerry O'Keefe said "Australia had that wicketkeeper once, what was his name? Bruce Haddin?"

[–]dzudz 2 points3 points ago

Ouch, that is cutting. Go Skull!

[–]shniken 3 points4 points ago

Brad Whoddin?

[–]devils-pedicure 1 point2 points ago

Well played, I've wanted him out for the last year now but Tim Paine has unfortunately been injured. Wade has a good opportunity to cement his place in the one day team here and force the selectors' to pick him for the Caribbean tour.

[–]twinathon 0 points1 point ago

Tim Paine is a tragic story, luckily he seems to be getting things on track, hopefully his recovery doesn't hit another corner.

[–]sloppyrock 2 points3 points ago

It is shit. I've been a to few t20s at the stadium and the noise is awful. If the cricket is good you dont need that crap. I quite like t20, more than 50 over cricket . I just dont take it seriously.

[–]devils-pedicure 4 points5 points ago

I don't think I could go to a t20 match. I'll admit it's good entertainment and I can watch a game to pass 2-3 hours of time. But, like you, I simply don't take the format seriously and I wouldn't be angry/annoyed/saddened if Australia lost. Obviously I'd rather see them claim victory.. but if they didn't I wouldn't be fucking pissed off until the next match like I am when we lose a test.

[–]GrandHarbler 4 points5 points ago*

Hoggy!!

Edit: that's gotta be the best tongue in world cricket

Edit 2: what an outstanding celebration!!

[–]Brokenmonalisa -4 points-3 points ago

I cant stand that bloke.

[–]GrandHarbler 2 points3 points ago

Sorry mate I had to downvote you, you're clearly in the wrong conversation. We're talking about Brad "The Tongue" Hogg in this one.

[–]adomental 6 points7 points ago

Channel 9's coverage is rubbish. What is this Moneyball shit?

[–]Gamblor11 11 points12 points ago

Im a test cricket man. But my love for cricket has overcome my dislike for T20. Come on get into the spirit.

[–]twinathon -1 points0 points ago

As a baseballer, it means jack shit to me. The whole thing with the moneyball idea was that it just didn't work in the end, nothing can beat fundamentals of a sport.

[–]Brokenmonalisa 2 points3 points ago

Did Nicholas just say Wade is a harder hitter than Hayden....

[–]smurf42[S] 3 points4 points ago

Nicholas... the king of cricketing hyperboles

[–]Mahhrat 1 point2 points ago

Hyperbowls.

[–]Gamblor11 2 points3 points ago

RAIN RAIN GO AWAY, COME AGAIN ANOTHER DAY!

[–]manpreetsm 2 points3 points ago

What is with Dhoni and his fascination with Sharmas bowling the last over?

[–]smurf42[S] 2 points3 points ago

I wish Brett Lee still played tests :(

[–]sloppyrock 0 points1 point ago

Class act. Good bloke too.

[–]smurf42[S] 2 points3 points ago

My favorite fast bowler, always fun to watch him run in

[–]jeauxoxo 1 point2 points ago

Not only fun to watch - IMO he's still the best short-form fast bowler in the world. Not as good as he was a few years back when he had a stronger team around him, but still very consistent in all respects.

Not sure he still belongs in the Test arena though =P

[–]smurf42[S] 2 points3 points ago

He still bowls 140+kph easily, his experience makes him a valuable asset for Australia in shorter formats, but he made the right decision to quit tests, his body wouldnt be able to handle it

[–]GrandHarbler 2 points3 points ago

What the shit is with the heinous blue smog everywhere

[–]inoxia 2 points3 points ago

its from those stupid as fuck fireworks because its the "rock and roll form of the game" haha its so amazingly over the top and stupid

[–]adencrocker 2 points3 points ago

if it's "rock n' roll" how come I haven't heard elvis & the beatles?

[–]inoxia 1 point2 points ago

Hahah slats was calling it that last year. You see him on the intro dancing around like a complete knob?

[–]xeford 1 point2 points ago

And now it's time for the "I didn't do it" dancers!

[–]herpderpherpderp 1 point2 points ago

The old grey mare, she ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be...

[–]xeford 0 points1 point ago

bwahaha, made me LOL at work and get funny looks from the guy sitting next to me

[–]adencrocker 2 points3 points ago

Looks like the indian team still know how to knick

[–]sloppyrock 0 points1 point ago

Sehwag has had a lot of practice lately. Still got it!

[–]smurf42[S] 2 points3 points ago

Gusset Jr. into the attack

[–]sloppyrock 0 points1 point ago

strikes!

[–]twinathon 2 points3 points ago

Ashwin good for a hundred here

[–]jeauxoxo 1 point2 points ago

Ravi always good for a hundy

[–]Majid_Ahmed_Khan 2 points3 points ago

[–]GrandHarbler 4 points5 points ago

Hey Indians, can anyone answer a question I've had for a while now - with the Caste system, would that impact on selection for the team? I mean, if Sachin had been playing as well as he did as a teenager but was an untouchable, would the cricket ing hierarchy have refused to consider him or would they have ignored his caste?

Edit: if you know the answer but are not Indian, please feel free to answer...

[–]manpreetsm 3 points4 points ago*

It's more prevalent in rural areas (i.e. the majority of India's population). In urban areas and metropolitans, it's largely inconsequential. Moreover, it is an intellectual blasphemy to hold such views and rightly so. Quite frankly, I don't know the caste of any of the current members of Indian cricket team.

Edit: India's institutions (esp. government) are so twisted and beholden to electoral politics that if there was an incentive to appease certain sections of society (caste, religion, gender), they'd do it unashamedly, never mind the merit.

[–]GrandHarbler 1 point2 points ago

I'm guessing the majority of cricketing selections come from the better off areas, where people are more likely to have access to training and equipment, yeah? Therefore removing it from most discussions? Good to hear that it's mostly gone from metropolitan areas, I've always assumed it was like most discrimination, and anybody higher up held on to the views.

[–]manpreetsm 3 points4 points ago

Again, if there was an incentive to include members of certain caste into the team, we'd probably see such cases more often. With Indian cricket, nationalistic fervour trumps caste-based identities. Sports is a great leveler.

[–]smurf42[S] 3 points4 points ago

I cant speak for Indians but I often hear more about bias for certain regions or states in selection rather than caste, i've never heard that word in a discussion of selection but then again I cant speak for Indians

[–]rahulthewall 0 points1 point ago

People rarely care about the caste system in India. Not heard anything related to caste in sports for the last 15 years.

There was a system where a minimum number of players from each region had to be selected, but that has been done away with (don't know when).

[–]scott1369 4 points5 points ago

People rarely care about the caste system in India.

False.

Not heard anything related to caste in sports for the last 15 years.

True.

[–]GrandHarbler 2 points3 points ago

I hear a bit about it in Australia, horror stories of people whose lives are ruined by their caste status. I guess it's like any other media and we only hear the worst cases.

[–]rahulthewall 3 points4 points ago

Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you Rohit Sharma. The saviour of Indian cricket.

[–]smurf42[S] 4 points5 points ago

Zing!

[–]dzudz 3 points4 points ago

After that duck can we call him "No-Hit" Sharma?

[–]rahulthewall 1 point2 points ago

Vinay Kumar - go back to domestic cricket.

[–]coke23[!] 1 point2 points ago

And he takes a wicket..how did that happen ???

[–]rahulthewall 1 point2 points ago

Sheer luck.

[–]coke23[!] 1 point2 points ago

He relies on luck while bowling.

[–]inoxia 2 points3 points ago

Poor bastard, 12th man all tour, finally get a bat and you get a duck. Poor dude

[–]HawkieEyes 1 point2 points ago

Who does everyone think will win?

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

Hard to tell really, India have always been decent at T20 but Australia fielding a pretty strong side I must say

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

I wouldve played Pathan over Vinay Kumar, he was rubbish at Perth

[–]Gamblor11 1 point2 points ago

Reverse sweep six by Warner. Amazing!

[–]GrandHarbler 1 point2 points ago

Not really a reverse sweep - he does that from time to time, becomes a right handed batsman for a moment

[–]Gamblor11 1 point2 points ago

Yeah your right, more like a switch-hit.

[–]coke23[!] 0 points1 point ago

What's happening there !!

[–]coke23[!] 1 point2 points ago

The magical Vinay Kumar..

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

Hey how come Watson isnt playing? I thought he was fit now?

[–]Brokenmonalisa 1 point2 points ago

Still not quite.

[–]aditim28 1 point2 points ago

Whoo there goes Warner :D

[–]shazam298 0 points1 point ago

nice finger

[–]GrandHarbler 1 point2 points ago

Bugger! Looks like the rain might have stopped this one

[–]HawkieEyes 1 point2 points ago

What would happen if a batter hit that camera? Or is it too high up?

[–]smurf42[S] 2 points3 points ago

I always wondered how those cameras never get hit

[–]j4087 1 point2 points ago

One will one day, probably in a bigger ball sport like rugby, and they'll be gone I reckon.

[–]smurf42[S] 1 point2 points ago

Actually one fell on its own in American College Football, they still use them though, especially in NFL.

[–]Gamblor11 1 point2 points ago

From my understanding it would be considered a 'Dead Ball', and would need to be bowled again.

[–]GrandHarbler 1 point2 points ago

What's up with all these questions or conversation? I thought you only spoke in predictions and smileys!

[–]HawkieEyes 2 points3 points ago

See, this is hit and giggle cricket, not the real thing. This means that the voodoo powers have changed. The predictions are now encoded in my general conversations/questions that will only become apparent after the match has finished.

[–]shniken 1 point2 points ago

There was a case in on of the games played at the Docklands in Melbourne where the ball hit the roof. I can't remember what happened.

[–]rahulthewall 1 point2 points ago

Wow - Vinay Kumar was out there just to prove me wrong it seems.

[–]inoxia 1 point2 points ago

Why did bailey come out? Would have rathered marsh come out here

[–]GrandHarbler 1 point2 points ago

I guess when you're captain, on debut and a batsman you want to make some kind of contribution to remember the night by

[–]inoxia 0 points1 point ago

What about captaining for the good of the team? You need someone who can smash with 4 overs left

[–]jeauxoxo 1 point2 points ago

You're right but I can see where he's coming from. If he didn't come out the media would be all over it saying he's 'unaustralian' and doesn't feel he deserves his spot and isn't the right man for the job bla bla bla.

[–]manpreetsm 1 point2 points ago

Do you guys think Sehwag is neurotic a la Jerry Seinfeld?

[–]BloodAndGuts 1 point2 points ago

LolIndia

[–]rubber_duckyy 0 points1 point ago

Am I the only one who loves Australia's new jersey?!

[–]adencrocker 0 points1 point ago

[–]shniken 3 points4 points ago

This is why we need to play Ireland. Get some punch-ons at square leg.

[–]Daymang 1 point2 points ago

If an international rules game is less than 50% brawl I consider it an uncommon display of gentlemanly sportsmanship

[–]sloppyrock 0 points1 point ago

no. I prefer it.

[–]jeauxoxo 0 points1 point ago

I'm really not sure why Australia went with three specialist all-rounders for this match. Personally I think Clint McKay should've been playing in Faulkner's (or maybe Christian's) spot. He's an excellent tactical short-form bowler.

Even better than McKay would be Nathan Coulter-Nile. Most dangerous bowler in the Big Bash IMHO - unfortunately not in the squad.

[–]xeford 0 points1 point ago

I was there, it was great! India won the toss and decided that was enough for the night...

[–]lecheers 1 point2 points ago

Why don't these Indians play tests? It looks like they give a shit!

[–]adencrocker -2 points-1 points ago

I can bowl a better ball than Lee just did
