Discussion on "The Maze" a Free Magic Show @PAC Feb 1st. (self.CalPoly)

"The Maze" is a combination magic show and testimony. The magician, Jim Munroe, does some "Chris Angel" type illusions for the first half. After the magic, he gives people the chance to leave before he starts his message about his relationship with God. The show is being sponsored by SLO CRU, Cal Poly's Campus Crusade For Christ.

I am curious to hear about any opinions people may have about the show and how it is being advertised.

I think it was probably the same guy doing the magic when I went and I didn't know about the religious aspect either. This was probably 2008 or 2009. The magic was decent and we stuck through the sermon for his final trick which was pretty good, he made a small statue of liberty disappear. It was free, moderately entertaining, and we had nothing else to do. I wouldn't regret it too much if you miss it.

Yup. Same performance. The real bitch of it is that I am pretty clever and could figure out how every trick was pulled off EXCEPT the last one...

I had forgotten Crusade had changed its name to SLO CRU, and I wondered how a club would be able to bring a magician to Harman Hall for free. Now I understand.

I was "attending" the facebook event until I found out it was some Jesus freakery... definitely not going.

edit the more I think about it, it's kind of fucked up how they're advertising this. If you didn't know Crusade had changed it's name or didn't know they were putting it on you'd be stuck conned into some bullshit religious performance.

If you could spread the "Word" (see what I did there) to more people so they are at least aware of what they are getting into that would be awesome. I have no problems with proselytizing, I just am not the biggest fan of tricking people into religious activities.
