My marketing teacher in high school had us constantly coming up with ideas for products. We literally only did that for the entire year and each of us had to create 10 "acceptable" products by the end of the year. We also had to use the computers in his classroom and not our home computers. Turns out he stole all our ideas and submitted them (about 250) to some agencies. A bunch got picked up, he quit because he's got a buttload of money now, and even though he's been formally accused, there's no hard copy proof.

Who would have guessed that a marketing teacher would turn out to be a manipulative, dishonest asshole?

[–]idk_really[S] 4 points5 points ago

Wooooahh! That is insane! Ingenious but so so unethical!

Yeah one of my ideas that I saw picked up was to increase Burger King profits (they've been WAY down), come out with a line of chips flavored like fries and onion rings with ketchup on them. Aaaand these came out a year and a half later: http://www.taquitos.net/chips/Burger_King_Ketchup_Fries

Guess how my microbiology professor got the idea to use microorganisms to turn waste products into usable fuel. He was always talking to us about ways to make loads of money...

I'm pretty sure that idea is basically useless unless you can actually MAKE the microorganism that can do that...

[–]chubbun 0 points1 point ago

He already found a bacteria that could: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2011/08/110825105024.htm

My junior high school gym teacher threw a chair across the cafeteria and hit a kid in the eye. He lost the eye.

[–]ypsm 2 points3 points ago

Was the teacher fired, at least? That's horrible.

[–]ogin 1 point2 points ago*

No. I'm sure there was some sort of civil suit, but he kept his job somehow. I still to this day don't know how that could have happened.

Also, the same guy's brother was arrested for murder a year later and the teacher had to go home to run the family farm that his murderer brother was in charge of. Runs in the family I guess.

edit: forgot some words :P

Holy shit I burst out laughing at this.

A kid in my class (about 15 years old) asked the teacher what the time was. He put out his arm and continued talking to which she replied "I can't read analogue". He then spent the next 20 minutes slowly, and condescendingly, teaching her how to read an analogue watch. At the time it was hilarious, in hindsight he was a massive, massive douchebag.

[–]Mixdroid 3 points4 points ago

Who the fuck can't read an analogue cock?!

[–]kimmehbee 3 points4 points ago

It can be a symptom of dyscalculia. I had a lot of trouble reading analogue clocks all the way through high school, and it still takes me significantly longer than most people to figure them out.

[–]bambibrutality 0 points1 point ago

I have dyscalculia and it takes me for bloody ever to read analogue. Waste of freaking time in the end.

[–]ImNotJesus 0 points1 point ago

Look, no arguments that she's dumb as dog shit but it's still a fucking horrible thing for a teacher to do.

I was in a massage therapy school in the Bay Area. I was exposed to and required to study different modalities such as shiatzu, accupuncture and energy. It was you typical hoshposh of a elite snobbery of Eastern/hippyish I'm better than you because I speak to my angels and ask Lomi Lomi for permission to acquire level 100 smugness.

So I'm sitting there in class one day when we were studying energy and how you can feel (The derps with total buy in to this nonesense) and see the energy that was all around us. Out of nowhere comes this older lady w/ the look and air of superiority (apparently she was a big dick in her field of healing people remotely) and went on for 30 min of how people are not attuned to the higher selfs and that the indigo children she sees will be changing the world one day.

At the end of the lecture she stated that what she was about to say was not up for debate and that we all needed to be more compassionate to souls. She stated (This is verbatim) that the soul of Adolph Hitler had the most compassion of any soul ever in all the realms due to choosing to inhabit Hitler's body. She said she respected a soul that would make such a sacrifice.

I'm glad the energy modality only lasted one week.

On a side note...

I was porking a girl that went to the same school who later defined herself as a medium and spoke to many different angels. I had to break if off when she told me that I had to let a millenium old being take over my vessel (Body) to impregnate her.

This began my hatred for all things New Age.

At the beginning of last semester, my roommate and I were in the same drawing class. We were all working on our in class assignments, and the instructor came around quite a few times over a two hour period to see us and two other people laughing and talking (but definitely working).

She then exploded and hurled a water bottle at my head, calling us "gossiping mall rats" and screaming insults. We all shut the hell up, but later she went on a passive aggressive rant about how "if some people can't work silently for two hours they're just never going to be able to be artists".

Yeah. We both dropped it (as did over half the class)

Average GPA grade for his analog circuits class - 1.64

Brilliant professor, huge ego.

[–]Herborist 4 points5 points ago

I started a petition with a few friends against one of my teachers. The professor that was supposed to teach the class got promoted, so we got the worst teacher ever. The first day she explicitly said that she didn't answer her email so don't other, she was never there during her office hours, and even though my friend and I had identical grades, she gave me a D.

I filed a formal academic grievance against her, got my grade changed to an A, and she's under review by the dean for her teaching (or lack there of).

Did you just say 10 year? You know it's "tenure", right? Not 10 year?

Did I just correct a gap in your knowledge?

This is so adorable!

pressure them into sexual situations. A teacher at my high school got fired for it.

[–]tapifruit 1 point2 points ago

There were rumors about one professor for giving priority placement in his research for sexual favors (otherwise he usually accepted senior undergrads alongside his grad assistants). In class, a female student spoke up, claiming she was a sophomore and was highly interested in his research and wanted to be a research assistant, he then asks her how old she is which is entirely inappropriate and unrelated (usually age is sometimes a requirement if you're participating in the actual study which is entirely a different matter) and she tells him 19, so he gives this creepy look and says you can come see me when you're a little older but see me during my office hours, perhaps we could work something out. I lost a lot of respect for him that day.

This is a bit of a different story...This is more of a case of something my teacher did not do.

Our PE teacher paid no attention to his students. He would sit in his office then at X:XX time he would know a class would come in, he would give them time to change in the back locker rooms and afterwards all the PE students would wait in the gym for the teacher. The offices did not have windows to view the gym and was behind another set of doors.
There was a student that for as long as I knew him was bullied. I met him in 4th grade and it lasted until he finally graduated (which is +2 years due to him staying back). This kid was not only taller than most but he was incredibly large. He was a god dam behemoth if you ask me, tall and very fat, long curly hair, glasses, didnt dress nice at all and he used to carry food in his backpack not books. This poor sap would very frequently openly cry when he would get picked on and no one would stop it (im to blame here also, i just kept quiet). I remember the worst day was when about 7 or so popular jock kids surrounded him in a circle and kept taking small pot shots. All he did was stand in the middle with a weak nimple fight post and try to fling a punch or kick someone but since one of the bullies was always at his back and he was so large it wouldnt matter. This ended up lasting for the greater part of 10 minutes and the entire PE class was watching, this was 30+ girls and 30+ guys watching this happen. The reason I single this teacher out is because he knew that kid was susceptible to being bullied and he would let the class go for 10-15m at a time while he stayed in his office, it just so happened that our PE class had ALL of the most popular kids/known bullies out of our entire grade year (i believe this was 10th grade)

edit: I think the sad part here was, he was so damaged by the years of this happening that even the nice guys like myself or anyone couldnt talk to him, he would immediately take it as an attack or think you were fucking with him and he would either glare at you silently or tell you to please go away. He could never make it better for himself because he pushed everyone away and even had teachers wishing he wasnt in class (crying..complaining trying to get out of stuff)

[–]logrusmage 2 points3 points ago

this was 30+ girls and 30+ guys watching this happen

I'd say they're all as culpable as the teacher was.

[–]Nihilithik 1 point2 points ago

Now that im older I agree, but you gotta be in the mindset of a 10th grader. Our highschool combines 4 towns together so its fairly large, by 10th grade your still trying to meet the new people from the other 3 towns . The last thing someone is gonna do is step up infront of the bullies and popular kids and call them out

As a person going to college soon after my senior year is over... Why are many professors like the one described by the OP?

[–]idk_really[S] 0 points1 point ago

I have no idea -maybe having control of the grades they give out, so they know students have to show them at least some level of respect, and that gives them some false sense of superiority maybe?

[–]StringOfLights 1 point2 points ago

I've had a lot of amazing professors. The thing is, a lot of them are in academia where the focus is on publishing research, not teaching. Teaching pays their salary, but you have to publish to get grants and tenure. Very little formal training is given in teaching, and it doesn't come naturally to a lot of people.

There are plenty of professors who do both well, but my experience is that some see teaching as a necessary evil because it's a huge time sink. I've even encountered an amazing teacher and researcher but his popularity as a professor led a lot of other faculty members to assume his research was no good.

the grading system.

My drivers ed teacher quized us while we were driving and one day I answered a yield question wrong. He slammed his glasses against the dashboard and exclaimed "I don't know what we are going to do with you".....also he told me to turn into a lane then just as I'm Turing he says "no, go to the other". At this point I'm confused so I go with his first choice. I hear him curse me under his breath. The only reason I didn't quit was because one of the other students (there were 3 of us) reassured me I was doing good despite what the teacher was bitching at me about.

[–]MissFegg 0 points1 point ago

When I was 4 and got into school my teacher used to pinch me and make my cry everyday, she also did that to other girls, and make them stand in front of the chalk board with their arms raised then draw a line around them and tell them they couldn't move.

That teacher was a bitch, and if I ever see her again I would probably kick her ass. I don't even know how I managed to keep studding after that.
