If you don't already have it, Google Skymap is awesome.

not only skymap, but check out the Nasa ISS Sighting opprtunities website for your location.. If it's clear out, it's mind-blowing to watch the space station go by.

edit: seems ppl like this, so here's the link.. just select yer country from the dropdown on the left.

Zenonia is great for action RPG on Android, sort of a Zelda + CT merge.

I support this too. Not only is it one of the better RPGs out there, but they were cool enough to port over to the Android platform way before a lot of other people.

Have you tried it with Wine? (I don't even have Netflix where I live, so It's just a wild guess... might even work.)

[–]lunigma 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Netflix under WINE doesn't work because Silverlight under WINE doesn't work, and that's what Netflix uses.

Moonlight with a user agent string change?

[–]lunigma 0 points1 point ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Moonlight doesn't support DRM which is needed for the streaming, as far as I know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Those motherfuckers. :(

They should implement it anyway. The purpose of DRM is lame, so I have no problem with defeating it.

no idea about wine, but virtual machines work, and was what I used to use for Netflix on Linux. I think I've heard online that running the windows version of firefox in wine can work, though

I use a charger in the car. GPS constantly does make the battery hot... SetCPU can be set to underclock when that happens.

Raging Thunder 2 has kept me busy during many long bus rides. I would try to find stuff that doesn't require a fast (or any) data connection if you are going to be outside of populated areas. You can always just load some movies or tv shows on it as well.

[–]HonkyTonkHero[S] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I will check out Raging Thunder 2. I would love to load up some movies, but I am stuck at work all day with no data cable, so I am limited to the Android Market.

One of my apps: BAC Calc

Not because the app is really that fun but because it will give you an awesome excuse to drink.

Shortyz! For crossword puzzles!

Some twitter client, obviously. I prefer twicca.

Floodit.

A podcast aggregator (I use BeyondPod) and the [Stuff You Should Know](www.howstuffworks.com/stuff-you-should-know-podcast.htm) podcasts. So informative, so funny. Also get This American Life, The Moth, and Dan Carlin's Common Sense if you're at all into politics.

The Kindle app, and some books!

Pandora and Grooveshark for music.

I just got back from a week long road trip. These are the apps I found useful:

  • yelp app for finding good cheap food nearby
  • pandora for listening to music on the go
  • open sudoku because I like sudoku and its a good time killer

Also be sure your camera settings save your pictures to your sd card. At least with my Incredible it saved them to the phone and I couldnt figure out how to get them off the phones internal memory without copying all of the pictures to my SD card >_<

[–]HonkyTonkHero[S] 0 points1 point ago

Downloading the yelp and sudoku apps right now. I wish I had an SD card, but I haven't gotten one for the Captivate yet. :/

Music. Lots.

I also recommend Shark or Die, Pirates and Traders, Criticality (if you are into Reversi-like board games) and Droplets 2.0 Free.

Other non-game apps I could recommend: Laputa reader (it has lots of books in the Blazer repository, though their legality is at least questionable (Harry Potter 1-7 for free? C'mon...)) and HumanJapanese Lite (if you want to start learning Japanese... why not? Start it once before leaving, it must download its audio files first!)

For music - subsonic is really cool. Won't really work if your music is on your laptop and you plan on packing it with you.

[–]frickingenius 0 points1 point ago

Definitely friction. If you have cash it's six bucks for gameboid and rom buddy which is a battery drain, but you can have Pokemon red on your phone.

[–]HonkyTonkHero[S] 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I use DroidEmu right now, it has emulators for SNES, NES, Genisis, Gameboy Advance, Gameboy Color & Gamegear, and lets you download roms from the program its self.

Any advantage to having the separate emulators? And downloading friction right now, thanks!

[–]frickingenius 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

no real advantage, it's just the first one i found and it is very stable. But DroidEmu sounds much better I'm going to check it out now.
