after HP had sold the last inventory they had for $149 each, this price is not that of a good deal.

[–]Summum 2 points3 points ago

If anyone wants one i'l sell for 100$ + shipping. Bought one and used it twice. 32 gb

[–]entropikone 1 point2 points ago

if nobody else takes it, i will definitely

[–]seefresh 1 point2 points ago

I'll take it, PM me

[–]earthiverse 1 point2 points ago

...AND MY AXE!

[–]Andrroid -1 points0 points ago

Its a deal when you compare it to the resell on ebay of those $149 fire sale prices.

[–]BloaterPaste -3 points-2 points ago

Also, a Kindle Fire is cheaper than that.

[–]KrakenWakes 12 points13 points ago

These are much, much better than a kindle fire.

[–]BloaterPaste -4 points-3 points ago

How so?

[–]blueside 9 points10 points ago

10" screen, 1.2 dual-core (really a 1.5 that many people have over clocked to 1.9), camera, microphone, volume buttons, 16gb memory, bigger battery, double the RAM

[–]KrakenWakes 0 points1 point ago

Remember, the Touchpad is an iPad level device (in terms of quality). That's what it was intended to compete with. It cost more than twice as much as the Fire to build.

[–]DethKlokBlok -1 points0 points ago

Unless you need Netflix :(

[–]erimid 12 points13 points ago

Install Android on it. Netflix works fine on CM7.

[–]LoganPhyve 5 points6 points ago

Except HP themselves sold these for 150 (100 for the 16gb model). Kind of a slap in the face.

[–]Andrroid 1 point2 points ago

HP fire sold these for $150. The resell value of them has leveled out to the $250-$300 price range on ebay.

Fire sales do not account for actual value. Consumers have set this value based on what this product can do (specifically, load Android, giving you a very cheap but high quality Android tablet).

[–]LoganPhyve -2 points-1 points ago

Yeah I was aware of the firesale. It's still a slap in the face when you wanted to buy one before, and there just weren't any. Then you turn around 3 months later and someone else is selling them by the thousands for more than the original MFG sold them for.

Is it a good price? I suppose. It's still insulting to an educated customer who was frustrated trying to buy one when the price was right. For 150 I'd sign up. For 230, I'd pass. I would bet that woot paid less than 150 each for them, as well.

[–]ShakeyBobWillis 2 points3 points ago

An educated customer would understand the frenzy created by selling a product for way less that in is actually worth on the open market. They'd understand the hardware itself is still a good deal at $219 and that the feeling you have from not getting one during the fire sale isn't 'insulting', it's just being salty that you didn't manage to snag one.

[–]Ebonyks 2 points3 points ago

The resale price of these seems to be a little lower on the for sale market of the tech forums that I visit, but it still seems like a pretty good deal for those who are tech savvy enough to load ICS on it. The cyanogen alpha is surprisingly usable as a daily driver.

[–]rolexxx11 1 point2 points ago

Do you have any info on how to do this and what it does? I've got a 32gb and I've been thinking about rooting it and seeing what's out there.

[–]Ebonyks 2 points3 points ago

Well, depending what you want to do, there are different steps.

Rooting it to me implies gaining root access through preware. That can be done through webos quick install.

Installing android is a bit more complex. If you have experience with installing android roms, it is a bit easier, but you'll have to use the command prompt to do it. This isn't developer level difficult, but if you've never rooted or flashed a rom before, expect a day or two of learning. It's difficult to brick the touchpad too, webos is easy to restore to factory settings in case of emergency.

That's a guide for installing android

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21543006&postcount=25

And there are the most up to date files. You'll also need to flash the gapps zip to gain access to the google apps like gmail.

[–]TronDiedForYourFlynn -1 points0 points ago

Rooting a device and installing custom firmware is literally one of the easiest things to do in the world. There are so many step by step instructions that tell you exactly what to do. Even installing Android on the Touchpad is easy as hell. The longest part of the install process for me was downloading the correct files.

[–]ShakeyBobWillis 0 points1 point ago

The install is pretty straightforward, another user has put up some good links. I just came in to mention that, if you want things like Netflix on it via Android, don't install the CM9 Ice Cream Sandwich alpha yet, as it has video issues. Install the CM7 alpha 3.5.

[–]RAPEFIST 2 points3 points ago

I got one of these during the initial price cut and paid $129 for the 32gb. Now it's pretty much my living room reddit machine.

[–]fuzzo 2 points3 points ago

be warned: no ports or card slots aside from the micro-usb data/charge port.

[–]hedgecore77 -1 points0 points ago

This is not all that great. I bought my 32GB Touchpad for $200.03 all said and done (including 13% sales tax), including shipping, and including a buncled $50 Targus case.

Now that the fervor has dissapated, I don't know that many people would pay that much for a dead tablet. It's alright. I use it from time to time. But it's not the greatest thing.

[–]umop_apisdn 0 points1 point ago

Why not put Android on it?

[–]hedgecore77 0 points1 point ago

I did. First experience with Android, while the Cyanogen mod ain't bad, it's not totally there yet. Sort of funny having phone related stuff on a cell radio devoid tablet.

It'll give you something to use when your girlfriend/wife hogs your ipad.

[–]mongolian 2 points3 points ago

Are you for real? It's just another tablet. Do you need 2 tablets? If so, it may be worth it.

[–]ShakeyBobWillis 0 points1 point ago

This has to be a joke.

[–]Boofster -2 points-1 points ago

Not a good deal, especially for a refurb.

[–]vitaminDru -4 points-3 points ago

I am selling my refurb locally with accessories (case and charging dock) for $230. This is a decent price but not great.

[–]entropikone 0 points1 point ago

$230 is way too much for that lol

[–]vitaminDru 0 points1 point ago

Downvotes from people that missed out on the fire sale? If $230 is "way too much for that lol" then Woot's price is robbery. I had mine listed for $250 and it SOLD for $230 just to clarify.

[–]entropikone 0 points1 point ago

This still quite a price to pay for a product that is no longer in production or supported by its manufacturer.

edit: just noting that i didn't downvote you...you posted your opinion and there shouldn't be anything wrong with doing so.

[–]Andrroid 2 points3 points ago

the people that pay this price are not paying for an tablet with HP's OS...they're paying for a tablet with HP's hardware (and quite nice hardware at that) with the intention of throwing android on it....<$250 for a 9.6" dual core, 32GB Android tablet is a steal

[–]entropikone 0 points1 point ago

No, some people paying that price, there are other people who are simply purchasing a tablet

[–]Andrroid 0 points1 point ago

Either way it's a price point that has been sent by consumers. Just take a look at ebay. Woot is simply matching price

[–]HerbertSnow -4 points-3 points ago

Waste of money
