I don't really understand why they're mocking something that few people have heard about or seen an actual demo of. Now I'm just laughing at the guy with the controller that looks like a space microphone

No, the Dunning-Kruger effect prevents me from understanding my own failures in comprehension.
And I know the technical reason behind it. They aren't smart enough to create Natal and so they stuck a golf ball on their controller so the camera can track it.

Technically Microsoft isn't smart enough to create it either, they bought another company who had already developed it.

it it will most likely be somewhat of a failure because Sony are right on this one, you can't have the same kind of interactions without a physical instrument.

I agree, if you're looking for the same type of interactions. I'm hoping the Natal technology will be ported over to Windows 7, as it enables some types of interaction that would be really nice on a desktop computer.
