Not bad for around $100-$150.

Towards the end of the article the prices is already going up. =(

I bet the RRP at launch $399

Actually, the problem is that this is a very poor blogspam. If you read the engadget artice it links to, the information makes a lot more sense.

Also, these vaporware announcements are talking to reps that want them to buy a million of these things at $150. That means they will retail for $300 or more.

I'll believe it when someone who can spell writes about it.

lol it's so funny hearing people whine about resistive screens in here. This thing will probably retail for 150=200 bucks, with a 10" screen and it runs android what the fuck are you whining about? A capacitive screen on this would most likely at least double the cost. At this price point it's amazing it even has a touch screen.

At this price point it's amazing it even has a touch screen.

now THAT would be an interesting announcement... a tablet WITHOUT a touch screen! i bet that would really bring down the price.

A tablet with two big wheels like an etch-a-sketch and a black bakelite button labeled "COMMIT".

I would buy an Android-powered Etch-a-Sketch. You could program it to do some wacky things with the input.

Who knows, maybe they could use sensors at each corner to triangulate a touch point.

good point.

Well, because it's almost certain to be awkward and unusable? If I want a worthless piece of junk I can root around in a garbage can for free.

Sometimes it's worth paying for quality.

[–]migsims 0 points1 point ago

Unusable? That's a joke, there are tons of systems that use resistive touch screens, just because the buzz word now is capacitive doesn't mean that resistive is crap technology, it's been the touch screen standard forever.

[–]vermicin 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

lpt/com was the standard for years too, but you don't see too many people clamoring for those over usb.

Loads of technology still uses com ports. Most tills connect via com for example. Just not in the consumer market. Com ports will still be used a billion years from now.

I doubt any human technology will still be used a billion years from now.

My understanding is that currently available resistive screens are incompatible with multitouch. Whe this may not be that big of a deal for some, it does hinder the usage of this device

i like that...can you correct me next time i misuse your? i normally get people that reply with fragmented sentences.

"you're!"

i do it all the time.. problem is i hear language but dont see it and my fingers dont have a good concept of grammar and tend to be too far from the brain to both to go ask. i think they are losing their hearing as well some times they type the completely wrong word.

This iPad look a like has a 10.1″ resistive touch screen

Eww, resistive. Welcome to 2005.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

yeah ... I thought the same thing. It's cheap and easy.

Also, I think that price is probably just the manufacturing cost ... actual street prices may vary.

[–]MindStalker 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Video said it was the OEM cost, but its probably close to manufacturing cost.

[–]m-p-3 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Well, I guess it could satisfy someone else needs or requirements.

I'm picky :P

[–]gcalpo 18 points19 points ago

Resistive is futile.

[–]THE_PUN_STOPS_HERE 0 points1 point ago

But capacitance has potential.

I prefer resistive screens on my gadgets. I have long nails and I want to be able to type with them, because I don't like to smudge my screen with my fingers.

[–]tokyomonster 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

On one hand, yes, eww resistive. On the other, if this actually retails for $95..

[–]SarahC 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's single point touch isn't it?

So the two finger stretch zoom like the LG's and iPod's isn't possible?

[–]yasth 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Eh, much more worrisomely it tends to have poor fingerability (heh); it can give more detailed output with a stylus, but eh who cares.

Honestly multitouch is not that that essential, but a screen that is finger usable is.

[–]timeshifter_ 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Why? Fingers just cause smudge and are less accurate.

[–]xaueious 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ever heard of a stylus?

Have you people ever used resistive touchscreen tech?

[–]m-p-3 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I do, and it wasn't that awesome on the Nintendo DS.

[–]Sailer 5 points6 points ago

Linux without X is about worth a sock with a hole in it.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If a sock doesn't have a hole in it, how do you put your feet in them?

[–]G_Morgan 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is just the exception that proves the rule. 99% of all the possible holes in your sock are detrimental.

[–]bagjuioce 3 points4 points ago

Hey! My socks have holes and I still wear em'

For some reason, on first scan I read the source page as androidcommunists.com. I guess open source isn't 1m miles away from communism.

[–]dramamoose 1 point2 points ago

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

Take another look at that. The article says " This iPad look a like has a 10.1″ resistive touch screen" but the image shows something that is barely bigger than someones hand. If my hand was that fricking big, I'd have so many women crawling all over my....

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think it's a 5 inch MID and I;m pretty sure I can get that already, elsewhere, for the price you specified but it might not have anything newer than Android 1.6 and I'm sure I can't find anything in that price range with a 3G slot. (Which wasn't mentioned, but I'm trying to focus on 3G tablets/MIDS)

Hah, I loved the video. That's the least-convinced reviewer I've ever heard.

[–]mnotme 0 points1 point ago

Well she is working for engadget. Any device that dont have an apple logo will get a crappy review from them. But yeah...it didnt seem to be that good.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I would be all over that like white on rice..

[–]jackyardbackoff 0 points1 point ago

The price is better than apple but the idea is still dumb.

[–]inventor2010 -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It is probably $99 with a two year commitment for a data plan at $60/month, which would total $1,539.

[–]Efflux -1 points0 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The $99 piece of shit. But seriously, spend another hundred bucks and get something that will be slightly usable.
